What's new

Do you hope your character(s) of choice is/are top tier?

All I ask is for Mileena to be really good, have lots and lots of tricky mix ups, and to be kind alike erron black with the whole 50/50 mind games and throws/C-grabs etc... I want Mileena to have lots of dirt, I want possibilities with this girl.

It wouldn't matter to me as long as I feel comfortable with my character.

Tho high tier would mean more of my character floating around lol

For some stupid reason I like to main underused characters, so I obviously use low tiers. Perhaps it gives me an excuse for my looses and my winnings let me feel like a good player(Im not)

Same, I don't care either way but I don't get the vibe that Cassie is going to suck...
Not my fault, let it be known here that I chose my 3 champions upon name being released, prior to footage. Therefore, if the Cage Family becomes S tier- in b4 the top tier rider. If The Cage Family ends up Baraka tier, I have no excuses for my uphill battle.

I want them high enough to be good, but not high enough where they will be used by everyone.

That would be it...
I mean... Why the X vest? Can't you just go shirtless? Ohh hayyyyy.. Look at my mid rift and fear me!!! (Circa 1990's Jago from Killer Instinct) The most fearsome tube top in fighters...
Well where else is he going to hold his Ammo?

I'm cool with whoever I use as long as the matchups are winnable & my kharacter is viable. I don't really care if they're top tier or low tier, just want to be able to play against anybody with who I choose. Tiers are fun to discuss, but I don't tier whore. It's just how kharacter fare against one another. Even if they're considerably weak, if they have a fair chance against the majority of the kast, I'm good with it. What I mean is as long as their matches aren't extremely fucked up, then I can deal with it. I'm the type of person who usually ends up with maybe 4 to 6 kharacters who are my favorites, but choose only 1 out of my favorites to be my true main to kompete with based on whether or not if I feel they're best fit for it & usually are fairly solid in games around mid tier at least.

Like right now, I have my choice narrowed down to 2 kharacters, but will choose only 1 to start off.

Tier lists are 100% subjective, so I don't really care if some people claim my character is top tier or bottom tier. Tier lists and match-up numbers always end up just being excuses for players, so they're pointless to me. If you say I only beat you because of my character, oh well, at least I still beat you, and you're just gonna have to hold that L.

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
There will be top players at various strategies and characters with moveset variations that compliment them. There will be extreme character specialists that become quite adept at all their variants. Their will be a tier list based around a premise that most people will be in the latter list. In the end though its all down to the player and finding something they can make work to augment their strengths. Tier lists don't matter to me. I play what suits me and that I personally have good success with. Its a comfort zone thing.

Mileena's back!
I'd love to, but I play Smash a lot and I've seen people advance far in tournaments with Olimar and DK in Sm4sh, so I don't think tier list matters too much, especially when I main Little Mac in that. However, in MK X, I'm all Scorpion and he's around mid tier anyway, so I don't really care. I'd love for people to whine if I beat them with a low tier character, though.

I'll just learn the inevitably stupid broken characters (whose playstyle I'll probably hate) for tournaments and use characters I actually like only in casual matches because they'll probably not stand a chance against top tier characters. Because that's how tournaments work.

The problem with playing "low tier hero" however (and I'm surprised @SaltShaker hasnt spoken on this) is the learning curve and earned victories are a MUCH steeper road to climb, then picking OP/Broken character of the minute.

Hypothetical Scenario:
-Kung Lao is face roll, OP, broken, easily S tier.
-Sonya is nerfed, neutered, slow, and Shit tier.
It is easier for the masses to pick up a Kung Lao and derp their way to victories (with just a broken move set and/or top tier pro player tech, to watch, learn, and emulate), then it will be for the "Sonya army" To have one to a handful of top tier players repping them and making them as viable as possible, and God forbid winning.

As a side note: IMO - tier lists only enforce this part of the game, and form an almost "ugly meta" to where people feel- broken and OP is the only way to win- so in the finals of said series, you only see the same 2-4 characters played over and over, because easy > work when all is said and done- for the love of the W.

I don't really care, i find the characters you are more interested in are the ones you try your best with. I'll be picking up dvorah or sonya so i won't have to worry about them being over saturated online either.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Alone is where to find me.
I don't like my main to be top tier. I don't play competitively so it doesn't really matter all that much. The reason I don't want it to be top tier is just so that sour losers have less ammunition. I mained Sek in MK9 who was mid tier. My secondary Ermac was mid tier too.

Yes, I want Quan to be as broken as humanly possibly because I love him. If he sucks I'll just pocket a top tier broken piece of shit for his bad matchups. Shameless tier whoring in MKX for me.
This is how you punish the recovery frames of Trance

I played lots of FerraTorr while practicing for commentary on that Fatal 8 tournament. I like him a lot! I'm gonna be going with "him" because the character is basically Torr, and sometimes he throws Ferra.

Anyway his buttons are gigantic and really really great. In ruthless/vicious variations with Ferra on top, he has a legit overhead/low game from about half screen, and they're safe. Even without Ferra in lackey he still has huge range. Back 2 is a low pops the opponent up over his head and you can get a neutral jump punch ground bounce into a big combo. His toward 3 2 string has craaaazy range and is safe on block. Both hits were overheads but I heard that was gonna get changed in a day 1 patch to just be regular mids. Oh well though, still really good! Back 4 is a gigantic ranged low, half screen with a Ferra variation. His down 4 is fast and far ranged. He has safe pressure strings that are cancelable too. I was pretty surprised how great his normal attacks are heh. Some of them look like they'd be slow or punishable but actually they're mostly faster and safer than you'd think. His down 2 uppercut is garbage though, takes really long to come out and is really unsafe and doesn't even have that great a hitbox.

Tom Brady showed me some pretty basic combos out of the low launcher that were doing like 35%, but I'm sure we'll improve on those over time.

In lackey he has a really great uppercut move, great hitbox on it. If exed, it has armor, it's safe on block, and it causes a ground bounce on hit! He has a roll that hits multiple times and goes faster than you might think, actually not a bad way to react to someone throwing a fireball. The command grab's range is incredible, literally half screen, to the point where you can actually walk backwards at round start and still be in range for ex grab! Like 20% damage too, pretty legit. Lackey in general seems like it has the best up close options on both defense and offense, maybe the most traditional grappler in the game. He doesn't have the counterzoning and zoning of the other variations, but it doesn't seem that hard for him to get in either.

Ruthless and vicious variations are a little different. I forget which one is which, but they're more about the mid range I think. Like I said the normal attacks become even bigger because Ferra extends their range. The regular Bane raging charge becomes a realllllly good midrange antiair because Torr swings Ferra up and toward first, even without ex it beat tons of farther ranged jump ins but with ex it's pretty much foolproof. Iirc the Bane charge is -7, which can be punished by some characters but not all (apparently frame data is real weird; to punish a -7 move, you need either a 6 frame special move or a 5 frame normal move).

One of these variations, I want to say ruthless, has a great powerup where Ferra stabs Torr and they get a good damage boost. Well that move is armored for one hit, no ex or anything, it just has armor! So if someone is trying to zone with projectiles, great, time to power up right through them! On top of that, Torr can throw Ferra as a mid projectile and nullifies all other projectiles as it's moving. So whereas most characters have to worry about throwing projectiles vs someone like Sub for fear of a trade where they end up frozen, FerraTorr can throw projectiles and actually be more secure. The downside is that, like Chang/Choi in CvS2, you have to wait for Ferra to run back to Torr before throwing her again, and your normals that get bigger when you have Ferra wil just be normal lackey sized before she gets back as well. The command grab has less range than in lackey but it's still good.

The other, I think it's vicious, gets rid of the mid Fera projectile in favor of overhead and low Ferra projectiles. Both nullify projectiles as well. The overhead can be aimed close, midscreen, or almost fullscreen, while the low just covers the ground up to about 3/4 screen. This is really nice because it gives you additional mixups, like string xx overhead Ferra toss or string xx low Ferra toss. I think the grab became even smaller range and changes into this thing where Ferra slashes the opponent and you have to mash for more hits.

I'm really up in the air about whether I prefer vicious or ruthless. Might just be a matchup thing, I'm not sure. For matchups where we need to get around projectiles, ruthless might be better to armor through and to throw Ferra as a mid projectile. Vicious might be a little more about pressure because of its high/low Ferra toss mixups, so, maybe in a matchup where you want the extra range of normals Ferra gives as well as those extra projectile mixups? Or maybe one where you think the opponent might jump so the overhead Ferra toss could antiair as well? Lackey definitely seems like the best choice if you're worried about getting rushed down, but maybe it's between lackey and vicious if you think the opponent is susceptible to it? Lackey has that giant command grab, but vicious has that extra high/low mixup. Lots ot think about, certainly.

Honestly, the character seems really good. I talked with a tester who felt that FerraTorr is at least high tier and maybe top tier. Ranged normals, safe strings, high/low/grab mixups from half screen, a great pressure variation, a couple variations that can zone or at least counter zone, good damage, etc. I'm not sure what's missing! Can't wait to play more.
So to everyone who doubted this character.U might wanna reconsider.( and Ferra Torr is Ed boon's fav new character.Check E3 build) armor on Ruthless variation when Ferra stabs torr without ex.Wowww. And in Ruthless & vicious if someone is spamming YOU CAN TROW FERRA & She NULLIFES the projectile you just shot & still hits you lol.& 80% of there strings and normaIs are safe due to torr swinging FERRA which creates range lool. Also means people like kung lao with buzzsaw delayed hat you can throw Ferra into it she will nullify it and hit lao all at same time.Lol get blown up. bet my Ps4 all Ferra Torr haters who say they slow or low tier jump ship.Watch.
Ferra torr <3
