Since this is clarification thread, I'd like to point out that it's probably WB and not NRS who make decisions as such.

Yes my bad, in restrospective i correct myself, its probably WB, but the point remains WB/NRS want profit correct, if so they need to drop this asap...

I'm just gonna paste what I posted on another forum.

"Keep in mind that region locks aren't necessarily related to netcodes. It could be due to censorship in other countries or it could be entirely WB's decision. A region lock will not give an indication of netcode or NRS's confidence in said netcode. There are too many other variables in play.

Edit: Besides. Locks same as mk9... We didn't have current gen then. As far as I'm concerned, same as mk9 means ps3 locked only. Xbone and ps4 will be region free I'm guessing. Especially with them hyping connecting the community globally through online. Granted.... It could only be through faction and leaderboard statistics, but I'm not getting torn one way or the other. I'd rather wait and see for real instead of some vague response that offers no credence to the current generation."

The REAL worst thing about this issue is the silence of NRS who feeds the speculation of bad netcode.

Everything is speculative at this point, we don't even really have confirmation that it will in fact be region locked or in what capacity. Merging all the region lock threads together because there doesn't need to be separate threads for the same thing.

This might actually be 100% NRS's decision. The same thing was happening with the PS2/original Xbox games back when they were working under Midway.

Many publishers may have reasons for implementing region locks. I just don't see why would devs have any say on the matter of distribution and marketing. I don't see how can this be a tech issue, so there's that.

I think this is going to kill MKX in the long run, when SFV arrives, it will have worldwide net play AND Steam crossplay, giving it a huge pool of great people to fight against compared to MKX, i think MKX will have a hard time keeping a solid player base next year.

why not just region lock only ranked. assuming the online is the same as MK9 that is

Even then it's better to give an option to check delay and decline the fight IMO.

I don't think this decision has something to do with netplay quality or such. But I'd rather wait for official statement first.

Figured the best place to ask. Can anyone confirm whether or not the PS4 version of MKX is region locked online? ...again...or if it's finally the first Sony console version to not have it.

I've been incredibly excited to play MKX but in the back of my mind I've been wondering if this region locking online is still a thing NR just decided to do, there's never been much of an MK scene where I come from for offline and in Injustice, which was also region locked, EU servers died down in numbers of players playing pretty fast. I had heard the PS3 version is at least region locked from an eventhubs article ages ago but no word on if the PS4 version is. If it is then I'm afraid I'll just have to give the game a skip, if not then I'm off right now to get my copy to start battling online.

If someone could confirm this that'd be much appreciated~

Welp, that's really disappointing. 2015 and some games are STILL getting region locked online...I really don't get why this always happens just because they can't or won't make the netcode better. Oh well, guess I'll be completely skipping the MKX train sadly :C

Did you order the US version? I'm in the UK and I ordered the Import Course Kollectors edition from Amazon and I have not heard anything about having a US PSN account or whether a UK PSN account would still work but will connect to US servers instead??

I'm not that clued up on ps4 tbh, I'm an xbox guy, got my quad for some exclusives and to broaden my MKX playerbase.

I think it should put you on us servers if you have a us disk.

The lame thing is this game doesn't have crossplatform either with PC. SF5 will have that.

What really sucks for people like me in NZ, is that we get the PAL version, so aside from Australia, we have to fight people in Europe.

Europe is around 300+ Ping
US West is 80-120 Ping

... I'd rather fight people in the US, honestly.
