MKX CONCERN - SOUND ISSUE AT TOURNAMENTS WITH NEW GEN? - TO's Read

What is your stance on single headset usage for new gen controllers?

  • Allow head sets to be plugged into controller ONLY if both players are using one

  • Ban the use of only ONE player being able to plug a head set into controller

  • TO's should be prepared and come up with an alternative

  • Anything goes. It's the players responsibility to bring their own headset

  • Other (post in thread)

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but I haven't seen much of it on here so here goes... (if there's a thread on this already, a mod can feel free to close this or move it to there)

I want to know what is the current stance with players who use a head set at a tournament by plugging it into the PS4 controller or the XBONE controller. Currently if you plug in a head set into your controller for any of the new gen systems, it gets rid of the sound completely from the monitor for both players. So only the player who has a head set plugged into their controller can hear any sound. Is this fair for the player who did not bring a head set with them to a tournament? Or is it fair for a player playing on a stick (or another device) that does not give them the option to plug into their instrument of choice? If it's agreed upon that it is not fair to use a single headset plugged into a controller, then what could the solution be?

Do we ban single head set usage into controllers for MKX and just allow use into the controller if BOTH players have access to a head set? I know there are ways to get around this issue by having a splitter and other device adjustments so that players can choose to use head sets WHILE having sound come from the TV as well. (This is something Spooky does). But not ALL TO's have the luxury of having this available to their players so it wouldn't be a plausible solution, IMO. (at least for now)

So with MKX literally around the corner, what do you guys think? Attached I have a poll. Hopefully we all come to a solution or agreement for what may become an issue in the future.

To make matters worse 3rd party controllers and sticks don't even have a headset port.

The best option IMO would be to have one of those headphone amps MLG had and just run an out from the monitor or optical audio signal into that and then both players could use headphones. But those things aren't cheap. They're like 80 bucks and that would be a huge additional cost for tourney setups.

MK has always been about the sound. (KI too) If you ever played MK on a cabinet, you know exactly what i mean.

There is two options here that are viable. Either TO's have to invest in tv speakers for every monitor OR no sound for anyone, unless you're playing on a stream set up, with likely has a pair of headphones for each player.

Resident Evil Online brings up a good point that I know was an issue with MK9 (i don't think i ran one single tourney for IGAU).

Ok just to be clear. When you plug a headset into the controller/stick (if it has a jack)) I have the option to play the game sound through the controller?

Yea like for example if we play in tourney and we both have ps4 controllers and headphones we can plug into the controllers and both have adequate sound

The issue is if you play someone who doesn't have headphones when u plug in to hear sound you will hear it but it turns the audio off the tv so if player two doesn't have headphones they will have no sound

Yeah, but it doesn't work exactly in that fashion. It forces you to play the sound from the game through the controller and takes AWAY the sound from the TV. There's no option of being able to play from the controller or TV (that I know of) if you plug it into the controller.

That's super weird,
I haven't looked but there's gotta be a way to have it both ways

Maybe it could be that it's game specific. I'm trying to find an option for it on Bloodborne right now and there's no option I see to have the sound come from the TV while I have my head phones plugged in.

Can anyone who is very knowledgeable on new gen systems confirm if there's options around this?

So poor Jim can hear the game over 16bit cheering for him?

What about people with sticks? Do stick players then need to bring their stick, their headphones, and supply some sort of converter?
Yea that got real hairy fast

Best bet is astro mix w splitters that's why I bring it everywhere including locals

I would imagine their has to be a way for that. Can you watch movies on PS4 w/ headphone in your controller?

I think Sony didn't though this through that well.

Woul it hurt to have an option where the audio aside of being reproduced on TV would also be reproduced on headsets?

If spectators can't hear the sound because both players are using then what is the good use of this aside from when you're alone at home?

To my understanding, you would have to use an digital optical cord in order for the sound to still output through the monitor.

You need to use a digital optical cord for the headset in order for the sound on the monitor to stay.

You can listen to ANY game or system sound with anything you do on PS4. Basically, plugging in a head set into the controller takes control of the entire system's audio in general.
