Community Real Talk Thread - IGAU and MK9 Players, Please Read

DAYUUM, and here I was trying to be civil. Basically all of this ^^^^.

We all act like these characters aren't beatable, but in reality, a lot of you simply aren't good at fighting games. Kabal, for example, didn't exactly win every match up 10-0. Where was Kabal towards the end? The people that had time really flushed out the match up extensively. I hate Kabal with the passion of christ, but my main concern with MK9 was the fucking bugs and glitches/inputs. Now I'm stuck walking the endless void until the next MK comes out, but I'm not gonna take that game lightly. I've learned my lesson. Gonna be balls deep in that shit.
The first sentence is a way to piss off alot of ppl lol

It all comes down to if newcomers are willing to commit to FG's and win the tourneys. From what I see almost every tourney, regional, or casual Its always the top players winning. It's like "Ehh the same top player wins the tourney, what else is new" they fear that they are gonna get their ass handed to them (which probably they will) can you blame them that they dont want to go to a tourney and come all that way get their ass kicked, and then go? Its good that they try, but in their mind set they want to win without even trying.
I don't make a promise that every new player will come out and win. I can't even promise that every tournament will be the best run, but you're playing a game you like and are serious enough to compete, you will at least have fun.

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
just a natural life cycle : a good game comes, people analyze it , dedicate to it, enjoy it, and so, until it becomes boring and repetitive, and naturally , we move on and go for the next one ..... happened with MK9, it's happening with IGAU, and will happen with KI3 and even MKX, when the right time comes ..... nothing last forever

there is no necessity for drama regarding this ..... normally, for NRS games, if you go for a simple observation you can see that the first year after the official release (when the game came out), it's the more enjoyable one for that specific fighting game : the period where everyone are excited with the new game, and discuss and take participation in every single topic and question regarding that game .... in the 2nd year, people already have experience and improved skill in that game, and so, still the game life cycle is good .... so in the 3rd year, probably the developer team announces a new game, and so, we can see that normally, is a better or improved version regarding graphics and gameplay mechanic than the last one, so, we go for that thing, to test that game .....

it's a natural human desire trait to go for the next stuff, if it's better and more interesting than the previous one.

Nrs should sponsor a yearly NRS cup. You know the money they randomly put in the price pots? Use that money to outsource the tournament organising work. People will always feel like they have a goal to work towards instead of thinking ''ohh injustice/mk is dead, why would we even continue to play it at a high level'' .

TBH I feel like people should play what they want and I honestly feel a lot of people have learned their lesson and shouldn't drop their main game just because a new game came out, when in reality, they still like the older game much more. I feel like having this experience, people will work harderr to keep injustice alive when mk x comes out, than when they did when injustice came out and dropped mk9.

yep .... in the end, let people chose and do however they want regarding MK games .... no stress ..... fuck off any fanaticism or hypocrite sense of loyalty hehe

Remember : USA uses to be a free country :D

For mk9 I was one of the most traveled players. Not a very good one, but I was having a good time. Then the elitism got to me and I've semi retired to only playing locally.

I'm not blaming Injustice for killing mk. I actually really like injustice and played it at evo, UFGT 2013,SCR, NWM and wherever someone is like hey wanna play injustice.

But early through mk's life the community's motto was "everyone get your ass off the couch and come play." Near the end I was seeing a lot of "I'll only play top tier mains" and this concept of "deserving to travel" which kinda blew my mind. I even caught a few shots about "entitled jade players traveling "..

And then it got worse. Even top eight players were getting blown up. I see them called bodied for placing but not winning.. And I am not someone who is making top eights lol. But I like to think of myself as supportive of the community.... And the community didn't want my support anymore because I'm not a top player.

So how is it working out with just them around now?

What we need to focus on is just coming together. I will do my best to try to be a leader in the NRS community as you don't necessarily have to be one of the best players to be one. Just need to take it one step at a time. First I will work on renovating the Raven forums.
Regardless everyone needs to be aware of their attitude; it is not that people are complaining it is people are not being intelligent in their arguments. No matter what side you take in a debate we need to be respectful of the other side and not let threads devolve into petty mud fights.

Crimson, we tried to make something happen with IJS and look how it crashed and burn. The only way MKX will become big in the comptetitive scene is with the help of NRS and WB. We can only do so much buddy.
Since this is public I just want to say how I was really pissed to hear about the death threat shit. I didn't know about that until I saw you in stream chats recently. That goes beyond fucked up. I really wish that site had gotten all the content and things I heard were planned for it
MK9 is a great game, created a ton of good rivalries and atmosphere. Even though it died after Evo2011 :REO It will be at TFC later this year, I hope alot of these faces I see coming out from "retirement" for MKX show up and play, even if they are rusty.
Injustice is fine, there are aspects of it I don't personally enjoy that make me not want to travel to play it competitively.
I plan on going ballsdeep in MKX from dayone

That's something to think about. The way top players act, behave and what they say can have a big impact on a game's life. It can discourage casuals and online warriors from traveling and make people want to quit or play something else.

Maybe MK players will "grow a little" like CD jr has. :)

Games don't last forever man, even Marvel 2 probably the longest living fighter of the FGC ran its course when Marvel 2 came out. We have to make the most of it now while we can.
\It's not like the community got any smaller (on the contrary it grew), but it's not exactly encouraging when you have a handful of top players going "Kabal this, Kenshi that, screw these resets" etc etc. other people hear about it.
What kills me is I hear alot of this from people who never played the game lol KKK dominated every mu! Bomb Resets win for free WUT? Last night I was talking about the tierlist in 2 different stream chats and still the top5 and bottom 5s are in dispute. I think you know my stance on how ridiculously good Smoke is

Deserving to Travel? What the hell does that even mean? I have no scene. I go to the biggest tournaments I'm able to have the chance to play more people and get better

This is such an idiotic post by a member of Tym who isn't even a member of the mk or injustice community. Do not listen to this guy; play whatever game you want to play, talk about the games however you want! You don't like mk9, or are not hyped for mkx... great, that's your call. And it's your call to speak about your feelings regarding it! Ditto for injustice; you shouldn't be afraid to disagree with the hivemind this leech is trying to create.

Don't worry about if the two games will co-exist, worry about yourself enjoying playing the games you choose to play. It takes a lot of time, effort, and money to support a scene...nothing crimsonshadow would know a thing about. Don't waste those things on a game you have no fun with!

Crimsonshadow is a cancer to our community; he doesn't support either scene, but rather become a fly on the wall attempting to make nobel posts about this or that. Both mk and injustice would be better off without him. The NRS scene was the strongest when mk9 was in its prime, before this fraud existed.

Have fun guys. Have fun for the injustice players going to mlg, CEO, ect. Have fun mk guys getting excited for mkx, and maybe playing mk9 for fun until then. Just enjoy yourself and don't let anyone tell you how to act!

I feel part of the problem is that we're not as encouraging to new players as we should be. The people who don't do as well at tournies, or don't show up for reason of being blown up.

We just need all the community together, those who are willing and able should try their darndest to make it out to tournies. At Final Round this year we only had 35 entrants in MK9, compared to the 123 we had the first year.

It's not like the community got any smaller (on the contrary it grew), but it's not exactly encouraging when you have a handful of top players going "Kabal this, Kenshi that, screw these resets" etc etc. other people hear about it.

Look at CDjr's thread about the random guys he met at the gym. The top players have more influence than they think, and should start using it to help push people out the door. Even as little as something as welcoming them to a tournament.
Well said. I'm not a frequent tournament attendee or even a great player, but I know poor outreach when I see it. The top players do have influence, and then will go on the most ridiculous rants targeted at members of their own community. I know that this is about competition, but you can't be so antagonistic and then also be a positive ambassador. It might be funny or "hype" for members that are already part of the in-group, but it just looks ridiculous from the outside. As CD said, if you want to be a community ambassador, you take on more responsibility than some online, anonymous all-star.

I think this goes hand-in-hand with the competition that is publicly visible. Some streams in the early days were very professional, but increasingly it is players that complain about how they were outed in the very same tournament that they are covering. That doesn't motivate me to attend such an event, or even continue watching it. It is community in-jokes and jargon that really just seems to be thrown around for the sake of getting each unique term into every match. I can't recommend a stream to anyone without having to explain all of this to them, which makes community growth through these nearly impossible. I know resources are limited, but an extra step of considering that some without magnified knowledge of the game and community might be watching, and that this stream may determine whether they ever come back, would go along way.

I don't mean to call out any one person or group. We all want to move toward community growth, and I agree with Crimson that recognizing the barriers to achieving that goal is of paramount importance. With all of the excitement this week, there is no better time to begin that process.

I must applaud those of you that have made these salient observations, and those that pour so much time and effort into the community. I think we all want to do our part to ensure that this effort pays off.

Shut the fuck up. Crimson donated $250 of his own money to the pot at an Injustice major. I don't remember which off the top of my head, but I know for a fact that he did.

not only has he done that, but he has promoted multiple events, helped players get to tournaments (he helped me and DJT get to scr 2013), also he promotes and supports scenes that aren't seen on stream as often (vegas for example). Honestly CS isn't even close to a "cancer" to the community.
