General/Other - Liu Kang Injustice towards Liu Kang's character

Sage Leviathan

I'm platinum mad!
I think I'm in the minority because I prefer the old timeline (with the exception of Armageddon).

Again, I'd like better writers for the series. So much potential, like digging for diamonds with a steel shovel.

@GreatKungLao shaolins don't fall in love. He wanted the girl, feelings rushed, corruption followed.

He is tired of the bullshit lifestyle you like. He said "you do that" and has gone wild

Liu Kang and Kitana were in love in original timeline as well. It didn't made any of them an evil or any sort of negative character. On the contrary, Liu Kang started helping beyond Earthrealm and Kitana saved her mother and together they ruled restored Edenia, Kitana even made peace between Shokans and Centaurs, not to mention she was a leader of Forces of Light in Armageddon battle.

They weren't though. In every canon ending Liu shut kitana down.

Fundamentals in real life
Lets all agree that the power level of the cast of MKX storyline is retarded!
Kung Jin defeats Kotal Khan the new emperor of Outworld-
Subzero defeats Kung Jin the new member of the special force without swet.
Cassie defeats Shinnok but loses to Ferra/Tor and Tanya.

Concluding Liu Kang is(or was) the cliché Hero of Kung Fu movies flicks of the 70´s but they tried to revert that trend but failed.

Of all the aspects of MKX's story I'm not a big fan of (and trust me, there are quite a few, the deus ex machina ending being one of my least favourites...), I do like the direction they went in with regards to having fewer unambiguously good characters.

Think about it. It's a world full of constant conflict and strife, and everyone has the ability to murder everyone else - it makes sense to have characters that aren't 100% completely heroic in it.

Although having said that, the Special Forces lot don't really do anything unheroic other than being ultra sarcastic, so maybe that argument doesn't hold much water after all...

All this makes me think is kotal kahn is super boned. I mean he couldn't take out Cassies team and Sub beat them all back to back. Last we saw the Lin Kuei was comin for that ass.

There was only one suck kind of ending in MK4, where Liu Kang refused to rule Edenia with Kitana, because Earthrealm needed him more, he simply put his duty above, but that doesn't mean he stopped loving her and vice versa. Kitana's MKDA ending and Ermac's MKD ending speak for themselves.

Not to mention Nightwolf's MKA bio:

At the summit, Kitana approached me. I was amazed to find that she was accompanied by the spirit of Liu Kang. The bond between them was strong; thus she was able to keep his energies intact until a way to reunite his body and soul could be found. There was not much I could do to help until I achieved a much higher level of shamanic power. I transferred the bond from Kitana to myself and accepted my role as Liu Kang's new spiritual anchor. Perhaps this unknown power sought by the Forces of Darkness could be the key to helping Liu Kang find peace.

It might be subtle, but still. Their romance never stopped, but unfortunately it still didn't get a happy ending either.

So, you like a pure and noble character whose dogma is to enjoy little things in life, avoiding temptations like money, women, power and if needed, to protect the lifestyle that faith gave him. Yet you encourage him being unfaithful by having affairs with kitana (even if the "plot" in previous titles was stating that all is good).

I don't get it, do you really support a sense of duty or any "hero" they feed you?

I have one more, hope it's not much to ask. There are literally thousands of game titles since 1990. Out of all these, MK was the first and most iconic title that had violence as its theme. Other fighting games weren't like this. SF had nationalities, VF and Tekken had martial arts as their theme. But, MK was like the "horror genre" for fighting. Endings that favor bad guys, plot full of treachery and backstabbing. MKDA's intro and MK9's trailer literally had protagonists killed (WHICH IS FUCKING AWESOME because almost no developer goes that far).

So, why don't you play captain america in marvel and superman in IGAU instead of rooting for a nice guy in the bloodiest game ever?

The MKA bios (in addition to being incomplete) are also filled with gems like Raiden siding with Shinnok, Onaga, and Shao Kahn, Kenshi abandoning both his quest for revenge and the special forces, and Johnny Cage's random unexplained visions. Is that really the writing we should be championing?

Fact is even during the Tobias era, Liu had three MASSIVE opportunities to establish a love connection with Kitana, and he didn't. In the end, he openly refused it. Almost every game post MK2 says Kitana is into Liu, none of them say he's in to her. The evidence is far stronger that if Liu has romantic feelings for anyone, its Kung Lao.

Shaolin monks in MK are not the same as in real life, otherwise Great Kung Lao wouldn't have descendants and Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Kung Jin would've been bald. So it seems that in MK a Shaolin monk can love a woman and love is not an evil emotion. Love actually inspired lots of heroes to become heroes they are known as (Superman and Lois Lane, Spider-Man and Mary Jane, The Hulk and Betty, etc.). Liu Kang just happens to be in that category of heroes with love interests that serves as one of the main sources for his inspiration to do what he does the best - good. Maybe growing hair and having a healthy romantic relationship is just a benefit of The White Lotus Society, who knows.

I like heroes that remain goody two shoes boy-scouts no matter how much a hard time they might go through in the story. It is their ultimate believe in good and doing the right thing is what the most important. Original timeline Liu Kang was doing just that. Canonically he didn't even killed a single person throughout the 7 main games of original timeline and gave formerly evil characters a second chance (like Ermac) and helped others to redeeme themselves who made mistakes in the past (like Shujinko). He believed in second chances, which also an important heroic quality.

Liu Kang was the sun of Mortal Kombat universe, a goody two shoes hero who standed out in this gruesome saga as the last hope. This is actually exactly what made him so great in the original timeline, it is because a character like him existed in a dark universe like that, because reamining good with all the shit going around you is what really takes most of character's strength, courage and virtue and shows his true potential and power of his soul.

So, why don't you play captain america in marvel and superman in IGAU instead of rooting for a nice guy in the bloodiest game ever?
I play all of these games, but also want my favorite hero in Mortal Kombat to be back once again, because it is my favorite franchise of all time that once had a goody two shoes Shaolin super hero firebender.

I probably should also remind about that Liu Kang's fatality in MK1 doesn't even kills his opponent, but knocks out. He remained this fatality in MK2, but as further this series got, the more MK developers stopped caring about including characters personalities into finishers, only their unique abilities. But as I said, canonically Liu Kang didn't killed anyone in original timeline.

I honestly don't feel like Liu Kang is being mistreated. He was a good guy who made a mistake and he's dead now. He is cocky in his con-canon intros(which make perfect since in context with his vengeful undead form). He's not OP as fuck like in the original timeline and now all eartrealm heroes have worth. He's not even dis honored within the game. He has a temple dedicated in honor of his accomplishments. He was a hero while he was alive, it's not like he has control of his actions as a revenant.

I still think that NRS should've made different set of dialogues for revenant and normal forms of certain character, where living forms would have dialogues that resembles them from original timeline. They towned down good characters personalities too much though.

Yeah I agree that revenant character should have unique dialogues. But since Liu's true form is a ass hurt revenant the dialogues work within the context of current Liu Kang. Some dialogues don't make sense though with some characters. I gotta admit it's funny how EVERYONE disses Kung Lao.

I found a Paladin here, still I don't get

how and why is MK your favorite franchise of all time since the character you like himself disagrees with everything happening in it?

Yeah, I remember his fatality, he was dead to me by this alone (though I think it was a kill in the bridge because it still ends with an uppercut). They made his MK9 Xray by it.

So, you wouldn't mind if they removed his fatalities

If they replaced it with something not lethal like MK1 had? Yeah. Or NRS could have made Liu Kang the only character with Mercy finisher, that would've been cool.

Probably because I became an MK fan thanks to other media that wasn't so violent like games are. Particularly it was Mortal Kombat Conquest and MK Movie that got me into MK series. There was even a time when I thought that MK game series is based on TV media, not vice versa, lol. It was a long time ago though. Still it was cool to see a character like Liu Kang struggling against all the evil of MK universe and still remain his best qualities untouched. I see a true stength of the said character exactly in this.

Cool? It would be anything else but cool. Not even little innocent children (that want to play MK) would like that

I believe he and half of this game's roster don't deserve any kind of finisher

Unbelievable. There is a logical explanation for this anomaly

I would tease you sooooo much if I knew you in person... anyway, well established stuff. You kinda covered for me many other MK fanboys whose characters would never be picked by me

You have to admit though, liu got more famous in MKX, especially the revenant skin

If anyone got mistreated its Quan. He was all mysterious im powerful but in MK9 and MKX especially he was a complete bitch.
