What's new

Do top tournament players even read these forums?

i follow several top tournament players on Twitter. Two of which are jwong and paulb. Both exclusive raiden users. I have seen tweets that indicate they have never looked at a single post on this raiden forum. For those who don't know, Paulb is a great KI player and known streamer

Example 1: Jwong has no idea about run cancel combos and I assume, nothing about the vortex.

Example 2: floe and jwong are hearing about the option select for the first time, well after @Chaosphere and @nugava have made it known. People now think this is his tech

Example 3: Paulb is learning about the raiden vortex for the first time, not from this site, but from some Twitter post to the YouTube vid.

When one posts content for the community, they do not do it to lay claim to anything. They do it for the sake of the players.

To seek credit is to lose sight of the whole point behind sharing tech.
I never said anything about claiming. The point is that we share all this stuff and want it to be seen and used. Not overlooked because we're not tournament players.

Of course not. They're busy winning.
Then why did jwong lose today and not know any optimized combos. Or a huge part of raidens game, the run cancel? Everything raidens got is in this forum. Might have won him the tourney if he read TYM

There are tons of high level tournament players that read and visit this website frequently. This is basically the tech mecha for NRS games. Jwong will quit playing the game after Evo, probably. He's not a dedicated NRS player like many of the other top people, so he probably doesn't frequent here much.

nugava

Noob
I know it serves no purpose. But I just tweeted that to J Wong because he's a great player and he could win MKX tournaments if he learns his character. And because I like him a lot. And I don't care about who's tech is who's. None of them are mine. Who cares... I just want great players to use the char at his full potential.

I saw Wong throw out some LRC combos, but even Digit wasn't using optimized damage combos at ever opportunity. I think the key word there is optimized DAMAGE. In many different instances both Wong and Digit used the combos that lead to optimized meter building with the held lightening attacks. At that level, it's more than just damage needed to win, I imagine based on the round, their remaining meter, and various other factors went into why they decided to use what they did.

Do you really expect seeing top Capcom/KI players on here? Thats like seeing Sonicfox on SRK or Eventhubs lol.
Exactly. TYM might as well be eventhubs. And that's an insult. Also I never see sonicfox on here either. Or reo cdjr Rico suave or many others. Its not just capcom.

Yeah. He has shown that he knows his stuff.
Right. He knew all the stuff that had developed with raiden. LRC, option select, optimized combos. It's all on here. All important and essential tech that we know and some top tournament raiden users don't. How sad is that? Maybe top players should quit bashing this site for a few nerf threads, and spread the word that you can actually learn stuff on TYM. Then the forums might stop dying more every day

Shark Tank

I don't actually play these games

Reo and sf post here. They don't dabble as much but comment on game play related threads. R.E.O. and SonicFox5000 to see their posts. Cdjr does sometimes but he's not that fond of posting here. Also, Pig, a very high tier player, has like a billion posts on here and frequently discusses tech.

Generally the Capcom guys don't post on ANY forum, they mainly stick to offline circles or close online circles for info, top players long ago use to post on SRK then not anymore for various reasons. Ergo they don't even post on forums that revolve around capcom games. Also I don't think Justin would invest enough time into this game to learn optimized stuff. He's probably just bandwagoning because his twitch viwership shotup. The guy does the same with every game not SF4 or Marvel 3, he uses his fundmanetals and then drops it when it won't carry him to top 8 anymore.(Floe more or less same story)

TYM has a lot of people who travel and compete that post here. Not even people necessarily at the top but still very good players.

Does it matter?

I feel that Justin is investing more time into being an entertainer, rather than sitting in Practice Mode. Not that there's anything wrong with this; his average veiwership has doubled since MKX released.

I'm sure he'll eventually learn optimized combos, setups and punishes after seeing them first hand.
